Thruster Brakes
Spring applied, electrohydraulic thruster released, brakes
Thruster brakes are fail-safe brakes that are spring applied and use an electrohydraulic thruster to hold the brake open. When supplied power, the thruster piston rod extends and the brake is released. If the thruster is turned off or power is lost, the piston rod retracts and the spring engages the brake.
We use both thruster disc and drum brakes in our industrial braking systems and provide comprehensive repair services for various types of thruster brakes.
In addition to offering and supporting various types of thruster brakes, we also provide comprehensive support for electrohydraulic thrusters. We stock commonly used thruster models, repair thrusters, and provide engineering and technical support.
Advantages:
Thruster brakes are ideal for service applications with high duty cycles, as you can’t beat the reliability and longevity of an electrohydraulic thruster. Thruster brakes also provide wide-ranging torque adjustability, which enables fine tuning of the stopping process. Thrusters can also be equipped with an adjustable passive time delay that allows adjustment of closing time, preventing system shock loading in certain applications.
Disadvantages:
While thruster disc and drum brakes are highly versatile and effective in a range of applications, they won’t always be the best option. The external environment where the brake is being installed is critical. If there are existing hydraulic or pneumatic systems in place, it likely makes sense to consider a hydraulic brake or pneumatic brake.
